My husband and I are in the process of renovating a house in the mountains that was built and decorated in the late 1970's...let your imagination paint the picture!
I will post before and after pictures at a later date but for right now I am decision mode trying to add details that will give my home character and charm. Much of the bones of the home will stay the same - the floors, the cabinetry, the floor plan - which leaves us with an exciting challenge to use paint and creative ideas to add charisma.
I have put together a series of posts that will highlight some of the things that I like and am trying to incorporate into the design. Have I mentioned how much I love Pinterest? It is making my job as weekend decorator a whole lot easier!
The first detail I would like to highlight is a skirted counter. I love the softness and cottage charm it brings into rooms that typically do not have soft furnishings. We plan to skirt a little section of the kitchen counter to hide the recycling and also plan to update the master bath cabinetry. We are using a neutral Belgian linen similar to the first image in the kitchen and a brown ticking stripe in the bath.
I am still searching for a source for the small diameter brass rail and rings...anybody?

Thanks for sharing. Love these images of skirted counters. I am dying over that first kitchen! Wow.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous detail! I'd love to incorporate one somewhere!

Hi Allison,
ReplyDeleteHave you tried VanDykes.com?
I've been able to find wonderful things there for years.
Good luck!
Allison - Thank you for posting a photo of my butler's pantry with Mr. Carson presiding over! I had my brass rods fabricated by a welder and just bought the raw unlaquered brass materials from a local welding shop. The rings I ordered from Restoration Hardware in antique brass. I had my seamstress make the skirt with a french pleat but you can order them with clips on the end and just use a length of fabric to get the same effect. Restoration Hardware has a line of curtain rods called Estate and you can order them in an antique brass finish with flat end caps. The finish is quite good. Good Luck and thanks again!

Allison, I used the laundry/bar in my last renovation-the one on my front page. It worked beautifully. No one ever guessed that the washer and dryer were under the bar. I added a mirror, tray and two side cabinets for storage.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and post all of the pictures.

Hi Allison
ReplyDeleteTry Antique Drapery Rod Company. I am sure they have them.
Love a skirted counter and love seeing StyleBlueprint photos (Garden Variety Design photo) on your gorgeous site! Thanks!
